 THIS IS ME

I have been an acupuncturist for over a decade and although it is my profession Chinese medicine philosophy  has  become ingrained in my life. I love my work.

Growing up I had a healthy dose of visiting the GP and the naturopath, I ate well and did plenty of dancing and sports, I was lucky to be handed down strong healthy genes. It was after a recurring bout of tonsillitis age 15 that was to be healed only by homeopathy that my belief and interest in natural medicine began.

I intended to become a naturopath after high school but I was too curious about the world and not mature enough to treat the public so I headed off backpacking with no return date.  It was South East Asia and India that intrigued me the most, an intoxicating mix of culture, religion, food, color, smells and freedom.  No internet, no phones (can you imagine!) living in the moment.  It was in Northern India that I become ill and found myself visiting the Dalia Lama's Dr.  A humble smiling man who took my pulses and prescribed me herbal medicine in tiny balls that I was to chew, When in Daramasala..... . I got well quickly in fact I was as well as I had ever known, I was only 20 but I felt amazing and was amazed.  A seed of inspiration from Tibetan medicine that would later lead to my career choice.

It was London that I called home for 15 years and in that time I discovered Acupuncture. I completed my studies over 4 years and transformed myself into a practitioner. Not only did I have skills to support people with their health, I learnt a health system that is thousands of years old, mysterious yet threaded with ancient wisdom that makes such common sense in how to live well and live long.
In the early working days I had so many wonderful mentors and straight out of college I began my journey into treating women and couples trying to conceive and pregnant ladies. This is where I have focused my continuous post graduate learning, I never get bored of the subject in fact my sister in law said "Oh you are one of those period women' meaning yes I love talking about periods! and I know a lot about them from teenage beginnings to the transition into letting go of the flow.

One of my many lessons working in London was collaborating with other practitioners, I worked in clinics alongside GPs, Obstetritions and fertility specialists, this gave me great insight and respect for western medicine and how and when integrated medicine is necessary.   On returning to Melbourne and then to the Peninsula I have grown a network of like minded complimentary  and medical practitioners who I share patients with.  I feel people are more supported through health if their providers are known to one another.
People often think I am a vegetarian, home birthing, greeny, quinoa eating  hippy because I am an acupuncturist, funny how we make impressions. Yes I am healthy but I live in moderation and realistic with my lifestyle. My advice and treatments are always unique to the individual in front of me, two people with the same health complaint will get a different diagnosis and an achievable plan suited to them.

I was not naive to a women's child bearing age obviously but left my own family plans until the 'just in time category'.  Following my own advice I started pre conception healthy changes before I even met my partner! Fortunately when I met him he got on board.  I moved down to his native Peninsula where clearly my daughter wanted to be conceived.  It happened quickly and I had a healthy pregnancy and delivery at home age 40. I believe all my prep work paid off and I advocate preparing to conceive and preparing for desired labour with my patients whole heartedly as I have seen time after time the benefits of 'doing the work'.

My family complete, a teenage step daughter and pre schooler who teach me lessons as much as I lead by example for them. I relish that one of my daughters first words was 'womb' and I will share with them all I can about how their bodies work through a women's life cycles as I impart with joy for my patients.
